COPPER ALLOYS FOR THE GLASS-MAKING INDUSTRY

Special alloys for the glass industry

Special alloys for the glass industry include MISV, MISV-M, MISV-S and MISB which are supplied in bars of different shapes, adapted to the manufacturing of moulds (Ring moulds, Finisher moulds, Roughing bottoms and finishing), namely half moon shaped bars according to plan or round bars according to the final application.

METAL INDUSTRIEL has the ability to produce in a short period of time in order to offer mould makers maximum flexibility and holds a large number of dimensions in stock.

  • Round bars

Produced by continuous casting, in diameters that can exceed 200 mm. They are used for the manufacturing of mould bottom.

  • Full half-moon or hollow bars

Produced by continuous casting in the dimensions specially adapted to the ring moulds realization. The dimension range is transmitted upon request.

  • Multiple shape bars

Produced by continuous casting and pre-machined, these bars are used to produce roughing bottoms and finishing. “L” shapes are also provided for the manufacture of tweezers.

THE MISV (Metal Industrial Spécial Verrerie)

MISV (MISV; MISV-M; MISV-S; MISB) is a range of alloys specially developed on a copper base with a nickel content of more than 10%.

These alloys possess mechanical and physical characteristics that are perfectly suited for ring moulds, finishing moulds, roughing bottoms and finishing. The alloys MISV are particularly resistant to the stresses suffered in production by the moulds namely:

  • Working temperatures above 900°C
  • Thermal shocks and heavy mechanical stresses
  • Erosion and corrosion caused by glass composition and lubricants

BENEFITS OF CONTINUOUS CASTING

Production by the continuous casting of half-product in MISV allows obtaining efficient and economical moulds to produce bottles and other glass containers.

  • Metal without porosity
  • A finer metallurgical structure than with products obtained by sand or shell moulding, thus providing a better homogeneity of the alloy, a higher hardness, a better thermal conductivity

The result is:

  • Lower machining costs
  • Longer operational life
  • A smoother and cleaner surface finish for efficient machining from the start
  • In many cases, continuous casting makes it possible to obtain shapes very close to the dimensions, which is economical both in terms of material and mould machining
